Volunteers from Sioux City, IA, Give the Seafarer's Center a Facelift

11 youths, ages 15-23, from United Methodist Church in Sioux, IA, came to the Ralph L. Garrett Seafarer's Center in Chelsea, MA to assist the new Mission Director, Rev. Bruce Greer, in cleaning house. The volunteers engaged in a wide variety of projects, from cleaning closets, painting bookshelves, walls, and stairways, to stacking and sorting donations. They spent 3 days in Chelsea, MA, and 2 days in Portland, ME.

The youth from UMC, Sioux City believe in engaging in Christian service, and therefore volunteer for different organizations throughout the year. As believers in Christ, we know that it is not good works that get us into heaven, but Christ's blood on the cross that is our salvation. It is our joy in that salvation however, that spurs the good works. As Paul says in Colossions 1:10, "Then you will be able to live as the Lord wants and will always do what pleases him. Your lives will produce all kinds of good deeds." The results are amazing!

Here at the center, our building was transformed by these Christians eager to service the Lord through volunteering. We owe them our thanks.

After the day's work the volunteers visited various sites around Boston. They attended the Eastern Mineral Open House which featured a U.S. Coast Guard demonstration. They also attended a Red Sox Game and even went on a Duck Boat Tour!
